Take leave of your senses, well, one of them, at a Dining in the Dark experience coming to Ballarat. This foodie phenomenon aims to test the theory that our experience of food is revolutionised without our sense of sight. Do our other senses heighten if we can’t actually see what’s on our plate? Come and experience it for yourself with a delicious three-course meal.
The incredible Peasant restaurant in Central Ballarat will be serving up two sensational 90-minute feasts at 6 pm and 8.30 pm. Any visit to Peasant is in itself a unique experience. There, they celebrate the powerful flavours of European, peasant style-cooking – rustic fare that celebrates the Earth and cooking techniques honed over thousands of years. Peasant is so exclusive that it’s only open on Fridays and Saturdays to a select group of patrons!
What can you expect at Dining in the Dark?
At Dining in the Dark, guests can enjoy a delicious three-course meal, choosing between vegetarian, seafood and meat options. Any allergies and intolerances can be catered to too! What we do know is that these menus have been specially created by the incredible chefs at Peasant to play with texture and taste but as for the dishes themselves.
You’ll be blindfolded the entire time so you can really get the most out of the experience and not peek at the food. The only clue as to what you’re eating will be the tempting aroma as it wafts towards your face, the texture as you chew and the flavours that burst forth with every mouthful. There will be help on hand at all times to guide you to your table and provide any assistance needed during your meal.
Don’t worry about making a mess, it’s all part of the fun! Some ambitious couples like to try and feed each other, which is equal parts romantic and hilarious. It’s the perfect opportunity to do something different with family and friends and to perhaps see a different side of people. Is there a dress code? You do you!
Still not convinced? Pretend you’re doing the taste test on Masterchef for an extra layer of fun.
