Rooted in the punk rock movement of the ’80s, emocore evolved into a subculture characterised by confessional lyrics and music that evoked great emotional depth. If you were once a proud emo or at least had an emo phase, this Candlelight tribute to some of the most iconic emo hits will bring you back in time to wearing those studded belts, smudging your black eyeliner and straightening your bangs. From “The Middle” and “Cute Without the E” to “Welcome to the Black Parade”, a talented string quartet will give their take on these classics and more.
This performance takes place at the Grade I listed Royal Pavilion in Brighton. What’s more, thanks to the Candlelight trademark sea of candles, it’s set to be an evening filled with melancholy, romance and nostalgia.
Candlelight: Emo Hits on Strings
The genre’s appeal lay in its rawness that spoke to so many teens, particularly as they went through the struggles of growing up. It provided an outlet for listeners to feel understood in their life experiences, with bands like My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday and Fall Out Boy often facilitating a sense of community for their fans.
This Candlelight tribute honours these bands and many more, celebrating their legacy but with a twist. As you step foot in the Royal Pavilion, you’ll be struck by the beauty of the venue, enhanced by the flicker of thousands of candles. Simply sit back, relax and walk down memory lane as you hear “Face Down”, “Hands Down”, “Dirty Little Secret”, and “I Write Sins Not Tragedies”.
The popular concert series continues to expand its range of musical genres that will receive the Candlelight treatment. Now, you can be transported back to the early 2000s at this one-of-a-kind tribute to emo hits.
The concert starts at 19:00 and doors open 45 minutes prior to the start of the show. But try to come early to make sure you get a good seat and maybe you’ll even have some time to enjoy the lush grounds of the Royal Pavilion.
