Australia may be a nation of foodies, but we’ll bet that you haven’t had many dinners where you’re blindfolded. Eating without using your eyes to take in the appearance of your food has been proven to amplify the flavour of your meal in several studies – and now, Dining In The Dark arrives in Canberra to put that theory to the test.
Offering a three-course meal that takes place whilst its diners are blindfolded, Dining In The Dark has proven a unique and popular foodie experience wherever in the world it has appeared. Sydney and Perth have already been treated to this dinner with a difference, and on June 8 & 21, it’s Canberra’s turn. Refined French restaurant Les Bistronomes will play host to the culinary affair, with a menu of fabulous French cuisine to enjoy. Bon appetit, we say!
Guests are invited to enter Les Bistronomes, which will be dimly lit by candlelight. You’ll be blindfolded and seated, ready for the meal to begin. With your eyesight restricted, your senses of taste and smell come to the fore to enhance your dining experience, inviting you to truly explore the flavours on your plate.
Naturally, the three-course meal will involve plenty of mystery, but don’t worry: diners can choose between three set menus to tailor the evening to their tastebuds. Vegetarian, seafood, and meat menus are available, and whichever you choose, you’re sure to be taken on a culinary adventure through Canberra’s delightful French dining scene.
Previous visitors to a Dining In The Dark event have raved about their meal, praising a “fantastic and well thought experience” where “waiters were great and welcoming and then food was amazing”. But there’s no need to simply take their word for it, as the experience arrives in Canberra soon, with dinners on June 8 & 21. There are two sittings each night, at 6pm and 8:30pm, so you can fit it into your evening schedule nicely.
Divine French food, the soft glow of candlelight, and the thrill of diving into a delectable, yet unknown dish: honestly, we can’t think of a more exciting way to spend an autumn night in Canberra!
