It would seem to most that the Central Coast could not be further, or more different, from Louisiana. Yet both regions share stunning natural beauty — Louisiana with its scenic waterways and the Central Coast with its sprawling golden beaches. What’s more, both regions are further united by a love of community, music, and jazz. With its velvet curtains and twinkling chandeliers, the Avoca Beach Theatre is set to become a musical portal to the bars that birthed the genre, housing the Central Coast’s new musical experience— The Jazz Room. These shared loves are brought under one roof, inviting locals and visitors alike to gather, listen, and celebrate the timeless spirit of the genre.

The Jazz Room: A Journey to the Heart of New Orleans
Jazz is regarded as the music of the soul, and as the soul of music. For good reason. Its syncopated rhythms, improvisation and expressive individuality earns its ability to communicate internal emotions so effectively, which is one of the reasons why we are all so drawn to the music of Ella Fitzgerald or Buddy Bolden. Jazz communicates the undefinable, creating spaces of self-expression and autonomy wherever it is played.
In the cultural melting pot of New Orleans in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, African-American communities blended African, European, and Caribbean musical traditions to birth the genre of jazz. Its restless energy has been carried across decades and centuries inspiring countless genres along the way, and resulting in the internationally iconic genre it is today.
What is The Jazz Room?
Throughout each hour long live show, The Jazz Room recreates the magic of 1920’s New Orleans, as professional performers deliver renditions of the greatest of jazz nobility, such as Spencer Williams’ Basin Saint Blues and Louis Armstrong’s Hello Dolly. Room is left too for spontaneous improvisation, ensuring each concert is just as unique as it is captivating. With its dim lights and soulful sounds, the venue recreates the stirring ambiance of a New Orleans street-style bar, and you have the chance to get a drink from the bar to enjoy throughout the performance and become fully immersed in the songs which changed jazz forever.
