Inside Aula Maxima at University College Cork, you’ll venture into the wondrous Land of Oz once again, only this time it’s thanks to The Wizard of Oz – A classical concert. Through the lens of classical music and the magic of a string ensemble, the music and memories sweep you away far beyond the rainbow this 26 October—and tickets are now available.
There’s a reason why The Wizard of Oz still captures our imaginations after all these years. It’s got everything you could ever want in a cinematic classic, from a cast of loveable characters like the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion to an enchanting, timeless story. And of course, let’s not forget that iconic soundtrack that guides Dorothy and co. down the Yellow Brick Road. Now, you get to relive the musical magic of the 1939 film classic.
Candlelight: The Wizard of Oz – A Classical Concert
Music truly is at the heart of The Wizard of Oz — music is what gives it some of its most iconic scenes a sense of wonder. Just think of those dreamy moments in the poppy fields or Dorothy’s cheerful send-off from Munchkinland as everyone sings “Follow the Yellow Brick Road”. And the songs don’t just help drive the story, they give us a peek into the characters’ lives, too. With tunes like “If I Only Had A Brain”, we get to see what Dorothy’s newfound friends have their hearts (or lack thereof) set on, all while enjoying a good few giggles along the way.
This season, Candlelight is rolling out the emerald carpet to invite you to a 60-minute concert celebrating your favourite songs from the Land of Oz. Picture a string ensemble performing classics like “Over the Rainbow” and “We’re Off to See the Wizard” while surrounded by a sea of twinkling candles. You’ll be transported via song straight to the land of Munchkins and flying monkeys with no tornado required! So, come along for the adventure — live music by candlelight is just a click of your heels away…
Candles and music and magic, oh my! Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences and Candlelight have officially teamed up to bring The Wizard of Oz classical tribute to you.
And the dress code? Whatever your heart desires. Slip on your ruby slippers, greenest fits or other Land of Oz-themed ensemble — after all, we’re not in Kansas anymore.
Each show takes place over the course of 60 minutes and doors open 45 minutes prior to the concert start time. Seats are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis in each zone and late entry isn’t permitted, so we recommend getting to the venue with some time to spare.
