Much to the dismay of the evil fairy Carabosse, you’re invited to more ‘We call it Ballet’ shows in Helsinki. Back by popular demand, these captivating performances take audiences on a magical journey through the story of Sleeping Beauty. But this is no ordinary ballet show. Once the house lights dim, the stage is inundated by the glow from hundreds of LED lights that adorn the ballerinas’ dazzling ensembles.
On selected dates over the coming months, you can take your seat in an elegant club and event space—the 100 year-old Astoria Klubi. The popular Helsinki space will be hosting this wondrous dance spectacle illuminated by enchanting LED-lit costumes. Places are limited so make sure you get yours before Carabosse gets her hands on them…
What is ‘We call it Ballet’?
‘We call it Ballet’ in Helsinki puts a shining spin on a centuries-old tale. A true love’s first kiss awakens a princess from her cursed slumber, but that’s not the most enchanting part of this one-of-a-kind ballet show.
Not only do the ballerinas’ outfits shimmer and glow thanks to their embroidered LED lights, but they also change colour to match the tone of the scenes unfolding in front of you. Pinks, purples, blues and more vibrant colors accompany the dancers on stage as they twist and twirl to the sounds of music composed over 100 years ago.
Ballet, its storytelling and the show
Ballet has long been one of the most favoured mediums for storytelling. For over 500 years, the dance has showcased some of the most famous stories every written. Every plié shares a feeling and every passé reveals the next step in a story. Once the dancers lift and leap to the music’s spine-tingling crescendos, only then can the extent of ballet’s power be fully appreciated.
So, when LED-lit ballerina costumes that change colour are added to the mix, the storytelling is elevated to dazzling new heights. What’s more, at We call it Ballet, an abridged version of Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty, a narrator will be guiding the show to allow audiences to delve even deeper into the story that we all know and love.
Ready for an unforgettable evening of dance, music and light? The luminous ‘We call it Ballet’ dance spectacle in Helsinki pushes the boundaries of ballet beyond your imagination.
