Imagine this: it’s August 12 in 2026 and you’re in Iceland. A mysterious yellow-ish darkness falls, cloaking the cloud-piercing mountains, volcanic beaches and endless emerald fields, then the birdsong stops. Shoulder to shoulder with over 3,000 other spellbound spectators, you slip on your glasses and get ready to gaze towards the skies, about to witness a once-in-a-century total solar eclipse…
This breath-stealing experience is what you can expect at the Iceland Eclipse, a four-day immersive experience taking place on August 12-15 in the stunning village of Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Journey to the land of fire and ice next summer and you’ll be treated to an epic weekend of connection, exploration, music, science, and wellness, where the headliner is the natural spectacle of space itself. It promises to be a remarkable celestial adventure.

What can you expect at Iceland Eclipse 2026?
A better question might be what can’t you expect? Aside from the obvious (aka that breathtaking moment the moon passes between the sun and the earth), this is a jam-packed festival that serves as a celebration of the eclipse, inviting attendees to ‘go beyond totality’ and look forward to what comes next – and there’s plenty to experience…
Still basking in the glow of witnessing the natural phenomenon, you’ll be able to channel that giddy energy into dancing along to the infectious beats of Icelandic electronic music. The festival will feature a lineup of iconic music acts, including MEDUZA³, Berlioz, GusGus, CloZee, Emilíana Torrini, Booka Shade, and Vök.
They’re guaranteed to get the crowds going, combining goosebump-inducing, ethereal soundscapes with hypnotic rhythms – a musical reflection of the mesmerising landscapes of Iceland. These live performances will also be dialled up a notch with stunning visual art, illuminating the dark skies with vibrant colour and striking projections.
When you’re not losing yourself in the music, you might find yourself attending a keynote speech or panel, where leaders in their field (think astronauts from NASA, leaders from the United Nations, visionary scientists, tech pioneers and much more) will discuss topics such as space exploration, Artificial Intelligence, digital ethics and neurotechnology. Each subject is rooted in a curiosity for the future of humanity and the planet.
If you’re after a more hands-on experience, you can step into the future, with fascinating tech demos that showcase pioneering technologies, or learn about the infinite wonders of the cosmos with some conscious exploration. There’s even a chance to unwind with a spot of yoga and meditation, or, you could always try dipping your toe in one of the many esoteric practices available, such as indigenous wisdom teachings, Icelandic mythology, breathwork, and sound healing. The festival is a treasure trove of unique experiences.

Where is the festival located?
This is not your average festival location. You can find Iceland Eclipse at the northwestern tip of the Snæfellsnes peninsula in (funnily enough) western Iceland. Set just outside the oldest fishing village in the country, Hellissandur, the bewitching setting of the festival is a significant part of its magic. After all, it’s not every day you can dance just a stone’s throw away from the fog-laced peak of a dormant volcano or sleep under skies often adorned with the kaleidoscopic colours of the Aurora Borealis.
The minimal light pollution and wild, enchanting landscapes make this the perfect place to view the eclipse. You’ll even be able to soak it up for over two minutes, a significantly long time for such a northern latitude. Plus, with glaciers, lava tunnels and more just steps away, you can’t miss the chance to explore further afield; luckily, the festival has partnered with local tour operators to give you that unmissable opportunity.
Why is this eclipse so significant?
To put things in perspective, the last total solar eclipse in Iceland was in 1954 and the next one won’t occur until 2196, so this is truly a rare experience in every sense of the word. As if the eclipse itself wasn’t captivating enough, during totality, there will also be the special chance to see the hypnotic Perseids Meteor Shower.
What tickets are on sale?
You still have a chance to snap up tickets to Iceland Eclipse 2026 before they sell out (they’re going quickly!), with the option to choose the Eclipse Seeker or Celestial Voyager pack. The more discerning campers among you will be happy to know that glamping is also available, as well as the chance to rock up in a campervan or RV.
