For an hour in Long Island, Neon Moves by THE BLACKOUTS makes the stage feel less like a fixed space and more like something that can vanish, reappear and completely reshape itself. Seven dancers move through darkness in illuminated costumes, creating flashes of bodies, patterns and colour that seem to materialise with the beat. Add a soundtrack packed with 2000s favourites, and the result is part dance spectacle, part visual escape.

Who are THE BLACKOUTS?
THE BLACKOUTS are an internationally recognised dance collective whose signature style combines precise choreography with advanced LED technology. Their story began in Switzerland before appearances on Switzerland’s Got Talent, Das Supertalent and Britain’s Got Talent brought their illuminated performances to wider audiences.
Around 1,800 individually controllable LEDs are built into their visual system, with cues synchronised down to the millisecond. That precision gives the group control over far more than colour. They can decide exactly when a dancer becomes visible, which part of a body catches the eye, or how quickly an entire formation seems to transform.
It creates a peculiar kind of stagecraft: the dancers are always there, but THE BLACKOUTS decide how much of them you get to see.
What is Neon Moves: an illuminated escape into movement and music?
Neon Moves takes that ability to manipulate darkness and builds an entire theatrical world around it. Across 60 minutes, seven dancers combine LED costumes, choreography, story and music so closely that the boundaries between them begin to blur.
The soundtrack gives the show a familiar backbone. “Everybody” by Backstreet Boys and “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor bring the punch of early-2000s pop, while the lighting translates those beats into sudden flashes, moving patterns and formations that seem to appear from nowhere.
Then the atmosphere begins to change.
Beneath the visual spectacle, Neon Moves follows a journey away from repetition and artificial control towards colour, emotion, freedom and something more recognisably human. The story isn’t delivered through dialogue or lengthy explanation; it emerges as the movement becomes less restrained and the visual world opens up.
“What a Wonderful World” and “I Gotta Feeling” accompany other stages of that transformation, keeping nostalgia close even as the performance moves somewhere new. Familiar songs become part of an unfamiliar environment, which is where much of the escapism comes from.
