We all know that music has the ability to evoke powerful emotions in people, and a well-chosen soundtrack can help to amplify the mood and atmosphere of a scene. To celebrate the amazing soundtracks that have accompanied some of our favorite films, Candlelight invites you to a series of tribute concerts to some of the most iconic scores in movie history.
The themes from 2001: A Space Odyssey, Interstellar and The Wizard of Oz, are only some of the soundtracks you’ll get to hear at the upcoming Candlelight concerts. To top it all, Candlelight is bringing its signature sea of candles in some of Nottingham’s greatest venues, such as National Justice Museum and Nottingham Contemporary.

Sci-Fi & Fantasy Soundtracks
This spring, you’ll be able to experience medleys and compositions from some of your favourite sci-fi and fantasy films. Music in fantasy and sci-fi films often tell the story, we can’t quite find the words for. It expresses the great sense of wonder of being in space, the astonishment we feel when being transported to fantastical lands, or a sense of prophecy foretelling a series of tragic and terrifying events.
You can catch Alan Silvestri’s theme for Back To The Future, Don Davis’ “Trinity Infinity” from The Matrix and Howard Shore’s Suite from Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring at the impressive National Justice Museum.
The Best of Hans Zimmer
You don’t have to be a die-hard cinephile to know who Hans Zimmer is or recognize his work in film. The German composer has been telling stories through music since the 1980s. He’s composed for over 150 films to date and has 2 Oscars and 4 Grammys under his belt. There’s really no better way of honouring the iconic composer, than with a dazzling classical tribute performed by a talented string quartet.
You can expect to hear a tribute to Zimmer’s music from The Lion King, Inception, Gladiator, The Dark Knight, and many more, at the remarkable National Justice Museum. Located on High Pavement in the Lace Market area of Nottingham, this architectural and cultural gem will be flooded by a sea of twinkling candles as the gifted performers take to the stage to recreate Zimmer’s eternal melodies.
Candlelight: A Tribute to Ludovico Einaudi
Not only is Ludovico Einaudi one of the greatest pianists of all time, he has also written music for some critically acclaimed films, including The Intouchables, Nomadland, and The Father. This summer, the award-winning composer’s introspective works are being recreated by a talented pianist at Derby Cathedral in Nottingham. The setlist includes pieces such as Primavera, Nuvole Bianche, Le Onde, Una Mattina, and many more masterpieces composed by the legendary Italian pianist.
Candlelight: Rings & Dragons
If you’re a fine of the popular tv shows like Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, you won’t want to miss out on this one-of-a-kind Candlelight event. A talented string quartet will be putting a classical twist on iconic music from the likes of Rings of Power, The Lord of the Rings, and The Hobbit. Each note will jolt you back to the fictional realities depicted in these fantastical worlds while you sit surrounded history at the National Justice Museum.
100 Years of Warner Bros.
Lastly, Candlelight is also celebrating 100 years of the iconic Warner Bros. film studios, one of the leaders in the American film and TV industry. This enchanting tribute concert lets film lovers listen to the magic of the award-winning soundtracks from a range of classics including Casablanca, Singin’ in the Rain and The Wizard of Oz, to more recent box office successes like A Star Is Born and Wonder Woman.
Enter the dazzling worlds of your favorite movies during an evening of breathtaking live music performed by the talented Ensemble M. The elegant art gallery has presented more than 50 exhibitions since its opening and this year, it will completely be transformed by Candlelight as it plays host to an intimate and moving classical concert.
