What is ‘We call it Ballet’?
‘We call it Ballet’ presents a combination of classical dance and modern visual elements, offering a fresh take on one of the world’s established performing arts. While maintaining the fundamental aspects that define ballet—the technical precision, the expressive quality, the musical interpretation—this show introduces a visual component that adds to the experience. Dancers perform in costumes equipped with LED lights that accompany their movements, creating luminous effects that trace their paths across the stage.
Ballet, its storytelling and the show
The storytelling tradition in ballet has existed for centuries, with choreographers using movement to express everything from fairy tales to human dramas. At ‘We call it Ballet,’ this narrative element remains important, as dancers perform selections from classical works, including The Sleeping Beauty. This iconic ballet portrays the story of Princess Aurora, who is cursed by the wicked fairy Carabosse to prick her finger and die on her sixteenth birthday. It’s a tale of good versus evil, innocence, and eventual triumph expressed through dance and lights.
What makes this production different is how the LED technology complements the emotional and narrative aspects of the performance. As dancers portray various emotional states, their costumes change in color and intensity, providing a visual representation of the character’s feelings and the story’s progression. With a precisely timed 60-minute duration, the show provides an ideal introduction to ballet while maintaining artistic integrity—allowing audiences to connect with the storytelling on multiple levels and experience ballet with an added contemporary visual dimension.
