“By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes”, indeed. This spooky season, don’t get wrapped up in the same old festivities, but instead, experience a sensational new tribute by candlelight that is both incredibly enchanting and seriously eerie. Coming to Boardwalk’s Cocoanut Grove in Santa Cruz is a Candlelight Halloween special that will recreate some of the most iconic horror movie scores and creepy songs that have by now become spooky season staples.
Think of themes from films such as Beetlejuice, Psycho, Halloween, The Addams Family and Ghostbusters, and even compositions that revolve around darkness, mystery and death like Gounod’s “Funeral March of a Marionette”. As the musicians of Listeso String Quartet take to the stage, the venue will be completely enveloped in the light of thousands of candles, adding to the overall creepy vibes. Boo!
Whenever we think of iconic horror films, we immediately associate its scores to the gruesome storylines. From the possessed melodies of “Tubular Bells” from The Exorcist, to the spine-tingling violins from Psycho that resemble knife stabs, these haunted tunes bring forth iconic (and traumatic) scenes that have redefined the film genre.
Similarly, when we hear Camille Saint-Saëns’ “Danse Macabre”, we can’t help but think of how death can be right around the corner, lurking in the shadows and waiting to appear on Halloween. This spooky season, bring out your jack-o’-lantern and listen to these tunes and many more at Boardwalk’s Cocoanut Grove, all the while surrounded in candlelight.
Candlelight witches you a happy Halloween and is gifting you with a chilling tribute just in time for spooky season. Shows will begin in October, with two performances each evening, at 6:30pm and 9pm, which gives you enough time to plan a pre- or post-show dinner as well.
