Twirl into the fairytale world of The Sleeping Beauty Candlelight in Sheffield as a stunning tribute comes to the city. It’s a feast for the eyes and the ears as talented ballerinas dance to the tune of Tchaikovsky’s famous compositions performed by an incredible music group.
As the lights dim, thousands of candles will flicker, illuminating the spectacular Sheffield Cathedral. The Sleeping Beauty will tell a breathtaking tale as ballerinas weave a magical story told through dance and music. It’s an elaborate narrative of good versus evil, fairies, kings, queens, the princess and, of course, her saviour the prince.
It’s the perfect escape into an enchanted world, filled with romance, vengeance, longing, magic and much more. Evil fairy Carabosse, who is not invited to the celebration of Princess Aurora’s birth casts a nasty spell on her. On her 16th birthday, she will prick her finger on a spindle and die.
The benevolent Lilac Fairy does the best she can and turns this death into a hundred years of sleep. As the kingdom falls silent for a century, the evil fairy is unaware that once the princess kisses her true love she will awaken.
‘Red Riding Hood and The Wolf’ have their song, alongside ‘White Cat and Puss in Boots’ and ‘Cinderella and The Prince’. Gracefully interpreted, you will also hear the ‘Golden Fairy’, ‘Diamond Fairy’ and ‘Silver Fairy’ play their part.
