Transport yourself to Andalusia this summer as you listen to the expressive and emotional sounds of some of the best known flamenco songs thanks to Candlelight. Flamenco is a UNESCO Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity due to its unique artistic expression that has now become popular all over the world.
Taking place at the impressive Sheffield Cathedral, on 28 July the incredibly talented singer Angel del Toro, accompanied by Javier Pastor on guitar will perform classics in the likes of “Entre dos Aguas”, “Alegrías de Cádiz” and many more, while dancer Monica Tello will enchant audiences with stunning performances of these beloved songs.
Candlelight: Flamenco Experience
Candlelight invites you this summer to live some of the most iconic flamenco songs that have redefined the music style and incentivised its resurgence in popularity across the world. The Grade I listed cathedral will light up by the glow of hundreds of flickering candles, as you listen to melodies evoking joy, heartache and tragedy.
The programme includes classics in the likes of Paco de Lucía’s “Entre dos Aguas”, Chano Lobato’s “Alegrías de Cádiz” and “Soleá por Bulerías” among others. Listen to the beautiful vocals of Angel del Toro with guitar interludes played masterfully by Javier Pastor, accompanied by the talented flamenco dancer Monica Tello. It will be an evening of music, dance and wonder you won’t forget any time soon.
On Friday, 28 July, be prepared to experience the “duende flamenco”, that special something that makes the Andalusian art so unique, as you listen to some of the best flamenco works at Sheffield Cathedral. There’s no need to pay for expensive plane tickets to Spain or the region of Andalusia to enjoy great flamenco—Candlelight is bringing the flamenco magic to your doorstep.
The Candlelight series takes place twice on the night with two back-to-back performances, at 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm, so you can opt for whichever one suits your schedule.
