A Journey to the Heart of New Orleans
Born in the streets, bars, and back rooms of early 20th-century New Orleans, jazz was shaped by African American communities blending blues, ragtime, and brass band traditions into something radically new. This programme traces that musical lineage through swinging rhythms and soulful improvisation, echoing the spirit of the city where it all began. As melodies like “When The Saints Go Marching In” and “On the Sunny Side of the Street” unfold, you are drawn into a world where music was not just entertainment, but a language of resilience, joy, and collective memory.
Taking place at Papillon, a historic venue on Commercial Road originally built in 1845, both jazz fans and music lovers will be transported to the birthplace of jazz on selected dates. There will be two shows scheduled for each date, at 17:00 and 19:00, giving everyone the option to choose between an early show and a pre-dinner concert. Suitable for audiences aged 18 and over, The Jazz Room offers the ideal Sunday escape from our busy lives and you won’t want to miss it.
