Whether you’ve seen a live St. Louis Ballet production, or caught a rebroadcast of The Nutcracker on TV, chances are you know what a regular ballet show entails. Well, We call it Ballet is not your typical classical ballet performance because it combines traditional elements we all know and love, like classical choreography and captivating music, with fiber optics sewn into the dancers’ costumes. This is meant to heighten the overall experience and make it more accessible to all audiences.
Ballet, its storytelling and the show
In a kingdom far far away, the cursed Princess Aurora falls into a deep sleep, her fate sealed by a single prick of a spindle. Although it seems that time seizes, a courageous prince guided by light and love, finds the story’s protagonist and breaks the spell with true love’s kiss. Aurora finally awakens and the world can rejoice with hope.
Over the course of 60 minutes, the timeless tale of The Sleeping Beauty will receive a literal glow-up, as the ballerina costumes are adorned with countless lights that make every move more visible. This abridged version sees six ballerinas lighting up the stage of E. Desmond and Mary Ann Lee Theater and you won’t want to miss it.
We call it Ballet is offering a sensational, new take on the Tchaikovsky classic. There are two back-to-back shows set to take place at the E.
