Neo-soul is a fusion of R&B and soul melodies mixed with hip-hop, jazz and gospel sounds. Artists such as Erykah Badu and D’Angelo brought the genre into the mainstream back in the 90s, and have since inspired the likes of Frank Ocean, SZA and Solange to explore the genre even further. This season, Listeso String Quartet will be working their magic on music by these iconic artists and more at this spellbinding neo-soul Candlelight tribute in Wichita.
Taking place inside Kansas Aviation Museum, this mesmerizing concert will be swooning audiences with classical takes on songs such as “Ex-Factor”, “Purple Rain” and more in a soothing setting illuminated by thousands of twinkling candles.
Candlelight Tribute to Neo-Soul Favorites
Neo-soul is best characterized by its smooth melodies and emotive themes. Catchy hooks take a back seat and are replaced with introspective, personal lyrics that explore themes such as love, heartbreak, identity and societal issues. Female artists such as Lauryn Hill and Sade have historically played an integral role in the genre, and continue to inspire contemporary singers such as SZA and H.E.R.
This season, Candlelight invites you to hear famous neo-soul songs take on a new life as they’re performed by the gifted Listeso String Quartet. From “The End of the Road” to “Redbone”, “Ex-Factor” to “Good Days”, you’ll be dazzled by classical renditions of songs that have defined the genre over the last few decades.
