If you’re feeling “Under Pressure” and are looking for ways to “escape from reality”, this season Candlelight invites die-hard fans of the legendary British band Queen, devoted melophiles and opera aficionados to a sensational concert that fuses opera music with the band’s greatest hits. The band’s theatrics and powerful anthems resemble classic opera genres, so there’s really no better match than Queen for such an occasion. Listen to “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “We Will Rock You” and powerful Puccini compositions at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church in Winnipeg.
A Tribute to Queen and More
One of the greatest rock bands in music history, Queen, had a fascination with opera, which is perhaps best noted in the 1975 album A Night at the Opera. The album has a diverse range of influences including folk, skiffle, British camp, jazz and opera, with “Bohemian Rhapsody” being in the forefront and topping the UK Singles Chart for nine weeks. Freddy Mercury himself in the late ’80s embarked on a solo career that would take him to sing with famous opera singers, including the incomparable Montserrat Caballé.
It seems that the opera genre and Queen go hand in hand and this season, Candlelight invites you to enjoy the best of both worlds in a sensational tribute illuminated solely by a sea of twinkling candles. Hear “Killer Queen”, “We Are The Champions” and opera classics like Puccini’s “O Mio Babbino Caro” and “Quando m’en Vo’ (Musetta’s Waltz)” from La Boheme at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church.
Winnipeggers are in for a treat this season, because classical renditions of Queen’s greatest hits are coming alive at the heavenly Crescent Fort Rouge United Church. The tribute marries some of your favorite songs from the band with iconic opera compositions, played masterfully by the musicians of Listeso String Quartet, in a show that’ll be fit for royalty. There are two Candlelight concerts scheduled, at 7:00pm and 9:00pm and doors open 30 mins prior to the start time.
