Listen to “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “We Will Rock You” and powerful Puccini compositions at the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
Candlelight Tribute to Queen and More
One of the greatest rock bands in music history, Queen, had a fascination with opera, which is perhaps best noted in the 1975 album A Night at the Opera. The album has a diverse range of influences including folk, skiffle, British camp, jazz and opera, with “Bohemian Rhapsody” being in the forefront and topping the UK Singles Chart for nine weeks. Freddy Mercury himself in the late ’80s embarked on a solo career that would take him to sing with famous opera singers, including the incomparable Montserrat Caballé.
It seems that the opera genre and Queen go hand in hand and this season, Candlelight invites you to enjoy the best of both worlds in a sensational tribute illuminated solely by a sea of twinkling candles. Hear “Killer Queen”, “We Are The Champions” and opera classics like Puccini’s “O Mio Babbino Caro” and “Quando m’en Vo’ (Musetta’s Waltz)” from La Boheme at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church.
Winnipeggers are in for a treat because classical renditions of Queen’s greatest hits are coming alive. The tribute marries some of your favorite songs from the band with iconic opera compositions, played masterfully by the musicians of a Listeso String Quartet, in a Candlelight show that’ll be fit for royalty.
